Plug valves for desalination plant

FLOWSERVE has received an order for plug valves for the Southern Seawater Desalination Plant, located near Perth.

According to the company, current plans are for the plant to use its manual and automated Durco PlugSeal valves for the high-pressure processes.

These products are designed for the desalination industry. They have a super-duplex stainless steel construction with a fluoropolymer-coated plug for corrosion resistance.

The manufacturer claims the units provide tight shutoff and can be serviced without being cut out of line. They are suited for use with the RG series of scotch-yoke actuators and Automax instrumentation, allowing for single-source assemblies.

The facility is projected to provide residents of the greater Perth region with 140,000 cubic meters of fresh water daily. This capacity can be expanded to 100b litres annually. Currently under construction by the Southern Seawater Alliance, it is expected to open late 2011.
