RAPP-IT says BHP Billiton recently used its Rapp-it Pipe Repair Bandage to fix a vital pipe after an unexpected leak in the main trunk line allowed over 24ML of water to flow from the bore fields.
According to Rapp-it, its Pipe Repair Bandage allowed BHP maintenance crews to perform effectively in the emergency situation and reduce downtime and production loss.
Rapp-it Pipe Repair Bandage is a pipe repair system said to be simple to use with no mixing or measuring required. The system works by placing the bandage in water for 10 seconds before wrapping around the damaged pipe area. The company says a successful repair can be achieved in 30 minutes.
The Pipe Repair Bandage is a roll of fibreglass bandage saturated with a water-activated polyurethane resin. Each Rapp-it Bandage comes with a 50mm stick of Steel Putty, which can be pushed into holes or cracks before applying the bandage.
Rapp-it says its bandages can withstand heat up to 150°C, pressure up to 150psi and most diluted chemicals and fuels. The bandages are also approved for use with potable water.
Emergency Pipe Repair Bandages are used in coal preparation, wash plants and water, steam, slurry & sludge lines.
