Apache Energy still to confirm date for full production on Varanus Island

APACHE Energy says the Varanus Island gas processing facility repair process “is coming to its conclusion,” but has declined to set a date for a return to full production levels.

The production facility was shutdown for several months in 2009 after a pipeline exploded on 3 June. The incident cut Western Australia’s gas supplies by around a third and left a gaping hole in the state’s economy.

Apache Energy initially claimed that the plant would be running at full capacity by December 2009, however when that month arrived, the company watered down expectations.

According to Apache Energy, much of the facility's processing capacity has been restored and it is exporting more than 300TJ of gas per day. At full capacity, the plant will process 350TJ.
